Ellen Page comes out of the closet
As previously mentioned, I sat at home on Saturday night watching SNL featuring Ellen Page. Her and Andy Samberg were paired together for quite a few sketches and, as also previously mentioned, this made me quite happy. There was one sketch that I missed, however. I was not completely honest before. I did not sit at home the ENTIRE Saturday night. I found myself wandering downtown (hey, its like 5 minutes away, even the highest will power succumbs at times) and consumed a few pints. I saw a good six sketches of that SNL episode, but I missed an important one. Page and Samberg, acting as though they were a couple, appeared together again. I came across the skit today. It is not a traditional couple, though. Ellen comes back from a “lezzie” show. Raving about the long legs, the silky hair and the wonderful smelling females that surround her. Check it out…
So, as I watched this sketch, I realized how close this character was to her character in Juno. And remarkably, how similar both these characters are to her self in interviews. So this begs the question, was this Ellen’s chance to come out of the closet? And on prime time? “I just felt like an oil lamp that had never been lit”. Metaphoric.
Either way, if Ellen is gay I am all for that. I don’t judge based on sexual preference. In fact, I have a few gay friends. It’s not about that. The main point that this sketch gave me was Ellen Page is a newcomer to big time fame. What better way to sustain her media attention than to surround herself with calculated doubt about her sexual preference? Or is it that Ellen Page wants to conquer all things up and coming? Teen pregnancy and now lesbianism?
Juno did not deliver on actors winning Oscars. Ellen Page had all this hype… and then, what? SNL. After that what is going to happen? Well, just google SNL+Ellen Page+lesbian. Count the hits.
Plotted? Perhaps. Effective? Time shall tell.

First, I found her guest hosting REALLY boring, and I actually fell asleep.
I watched this skit earlier tonight on a gossip blog and their claimed that she was “squashing rumours of her sexuality”. Is it really that important or even esential that someone’s sexuality overshadows their talent? It is strange how consumed and focused in on whether or not an actor or actress is gay Hollywood is. Hasn’t society advanced a little further than that?
Personally, I think she is just playing with the media. I mean, that skit was completely over the top and very unbelieveable.

I think celebrities will do anything to stay in the spotlight. The sad truth is that the media actually report on stupid celebrity antics. The sadder truth is that we watch it. I’m no different! It’s fun to know that these seemingly perfect people with everything in the world have bad days too. They just have to do it with half the world watching. There are everyday people out there who deal with addiction and depression and divorce and jail and breakups and deaths and eating disorders and sexual orientation each day. These issues are no more glamorous in Hollywood. But like I said celebrities will do anything to stay noticed.

I was watching The Ellen Show when Ellen Page was a guest and she mentioned her living with her “partner” and refered to her as a “she”… so if is a plot for media attention then she’s doing good…. we are all talking about it.

I was able to watch the skit, that is so typical of SNL. I guess it’s what sells television. I also saw Ellen Page in another personal interview, & to me she should be really careful of what she’s asking for because I thinking she’s going to get it with a vengeance. Fame that is.
